Ali
Ghapu
Palace
(17th
century). This palace was built at the time of Shah Abbas
1st. Ali Ghapu (The House of Government) is a six story
building, each one of which is decorated with the finest
paintings and plaster works of the Safawid period. Among
these works are paintings by Reza Abbasi, a master painter
of the Safawid court. At the time of Shah Abbas II, a hall
with 18 pillars and the wooden fence was added to the third
story of Ali Ghapu. At the middle of this hall that
overlooked the square, is a fountain made of copper. The
most interesting part is the sound room. The plaster work on
the walls and ceilings of this room is very beautiful. They
depict the shape of various forms of jars, but they also
served some acoustical purposes.
